Several local authorities in England have announced
increases to the fees they charge different
small businesses for trading licences.
For
example, Kirklees Council announced that licence
fees for businesses such as dog boarders, doggy
day care centres and catteries/kennels will
increase by around 500%. Broadland District
Council and South Norfolk Council are also increasing
licence fees for a variety of businesses, including
dog breeders, tattoo parlours and taxi drivers.
Some increases will be minimal, but some fees
will increase by more than 1,400%.
The
increase in licence fees is due to local authorities
facing increased operational costs. Many businesses
have warned that the increases will put them
out of business.
