By way of explanation. The term 'home business' consists of two words. 'Business' is the second one; it's there to qualify and support the word 'home' and all that goes with it - and not vice versa. Consequently, we also list below, items which are of interest and value to the home. Whether in its context as an office or as a part of your family and lifestyle but always directed at the improved prospects and enjoyment that running a business from home, in its entirety, can bring.

For a current, multi-part overview of starting and running a business from home, go here: http://www.homebusiness.org.uk/features.htm

We should take pride in Britain’s acceptable food. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jul/30/we-should-take-pride-in-britains-acceptable-food-spanish-attitudes-visit-britain The best of British food is far more than 'acceptable' these days and has been so for well over a decade. (Unlike the demise of quality French food and cuisine at the same time.) The main problem faced by British food (and British society) remains the media which like Tory politicians, is totally disconnected from the real world.

Normally, they concentrate on attacking women and children, usually with bombs dropped from 20,000 feet. (Like Americans and Brits.) Mind you, serves the passenger right for going to such a poser's shit-hole like Nice in the first place.

Revised timetable for introduction of MTD. HM Treasury has published a revised timetable for the introduction of Making Tax Digital (MTD). This is in response to criticism that the current timetable does not allow sufficient time to ensure a smooth transition to a digital tax system. Firms whose turnover is under the VAT threshold will not be required to keep digital records or submit quarterly reports to HMRC until 2020 at the earliest.

The Treasury has also confirmed that a second Finance Bill will be introduced in autumn 2017. It will legislate for all of the measures dropped from the Finance Act prior to the General Election in June 2017. (EnterpriseQuest)

Since 6 April 2017, responsibility for deciding whether public authority contractors fall within the scope of IR35 has moved to the public authority in receipt of the contractor's services. The guidance clarifies which public authorities IR35 rules apply to, as well as their responsibilities. Public authorities that must comply with IR35 rules include government departments, many companies owned or controlled by the public sector, schools and universities, local authorities and the NHS. Excluded from the new rules are high street retailers that supply the NHS such as pharmacies and opticians. (EnterpriseQuest)

18.07.2017: Reaction to Taylor Review of employment practices. The FSB has called for guarantees that self-employed workers will not be unfairly categorised as 'dependent contractors', following the publication of the Taylor Review's final report on modern employment practices. The report makes a range of recommendations to tackle insecure work, including redefining workers in the gig economy as dependent contractors.

FSB National Chairman, Mike Cherry, said: "Government and Parliament must now protect the genuinely self-employed from being dragged into a new category of dependent contractors. Legislation must not be so broadly drafted as to give ministers the power to widen the net on a whim without robust parliamentary oversight, in a way that hurts the genuinely self-employed."

Many employment law specialists have also warned that introducing any new employment legislation would be very difficult. Ruth Buchanan, employment partner at Ashurst, said "the task is gargantuan", adding: "there is a real risk that a Brexit-mired parliament will not get to implement these changes for a number of years." Tax bills could be reason for drop-off in overseas landlords. http://www.aol.co.uk/money/2017/07/16/tax-bills-could-be-reason-for-drop-off-in-overseas-landlords/ As an overseas landlord myself, tax bills are only one issue. Absolutely stupid British house prices are another; you can buy a couple of houses (or more) in most of Europe to give you at least double the rental return you would spend per property in the UK. Another major problem is finding professional, reliable, competent and honest tradesmen or property management services to look after the lets in your absence. Then, finding tenants these days who can change a light bulb without Googling it first, then asking you to get someone in to change it for them secondly, is another issue. Whereas when things do go pear-shaped then seeking justice in the UK, especially using official online services, is just another way of throwing time and money down the drain. Anything else?

11 and 12/07/2017: Value of shadow economy expected to fall. http://www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/news/2017/june/uk-shadow-economy.html The shadow economy will account for 10.8% of UK GDP by 2025, down from 11.5% (£223 billion) in 2016, according to a report by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The shadow economy is 'the part of an economy involving goods and services which are paid for in cash, and therefore not declared for tax'.

Faye Chua, Head of Business Insights at ACCA, said: "The UK has a relatively small shadow economy compared with other countries around the world, but it is quite worrying that by 2025 it won’t have fallen by much. The current factors contributing to the UK's shadow economy are high unemployment and low GDP." (EnterpriseQuest)

They also require energy suppliers to inform micro-businesses once they have been on a default tariff for three years, and permit other energy suppliers to provide information about their own prices at this point. 03.07.2017: Government to pull out of EU fishing deal and reclaim UK waters for British fishermen. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/07/02/government-pull-eu-fishing-deal-reclaim-uk-waters-british-fishermen/ Rather a propaganda stunt than a move designed to improve the fortunes of small British fishermen, which have been decimated more by successive British governments than they have by Brussels. (As with 'red tape'.) A decision based on co-operation would have been infinitely more productive. Now, watch French and Spanish fishermen throw their toys out of the pram.

Theresa May could storm out of Brexit talks over 'divorce bill'. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/07/01/theresa-may-could-storm-brexit-talks-divorce-bill/ With nothing of substance to bring to the negotiations, I suppose a hissy fit is all that can be expected from Little Ingerlandt's worst-ever Prime Minister.

Forget about France - here's the 28 most beautiful bike rides in Britain. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/body/forget-france-28-beautiful-bike-rides-britain/ Point taken, although Britain's problem is too many pig-ignorant drivers, usually on their dummyphones, who have killed more cyclists over the years than all the country's terrorist attacks put together - and then some. (As not reported by the country's hate-preaching, fake news propaganda.) The French, on the other hand, especially in rural areas, generally have a far more benign attitude to bike riders. Which is why most of the pros live there.
