By
way of explanation. The
term 'home business' consists of two words.
'Business' is the second one; it's there to
qualify and support the word 'home' and all
that goes with it - and not vice versa. Consequently,
we also list below, items which are of interest
and value to the home. Whether in its context
as an office or as a part of your family and
lifestyle but always
directed at the improved prospects and enjoyment
that running a business from home, in its entirety,
can bring.

Lack
of government support hits smaller firms.
http://smithandwilliamson.com/business/insights/smith-and-williamson-enterprise-index/2017-q3-government-support-for-smes-and-entrepreneurs-wavering
Almost two thirds (65%) of small and medium-sized
business owners believe they lack government
support to grow their firm, according to the
'Enterprise Index' for Q3 2017 from accountancy
firm Smith & Williamson. The index has revealed
that just 35% of smaller firms believe government
policy is supportive of private enterprise,
while 74% said political uncertainty is having
a negative impact on their business. (EnterpriseQuest)

HMRC seeks views on digitising 'tax-free

HMRC is asking small retailers who use the VAT
Retail Export Scheme to help with its digitisation.
The scheme allows VAT to be reclaimed on goods
that are purchased in the UK by non-European
visitors and taken home in their personal luggage.
HMRC plans to digitise the scheme, which currently
uses paper forms, by 2020. Retailers can register
their interest in helping with this process

the trade and customs arrangements that will
be in place after the UK leaves the EU. The
first paper outlines the legislation that will
need to be introduced to deliver a post-Brexit
trade policy. This includes bringing all existing

countries into UK law, and measures to ensure
the UK continues to benefit from World Trade

An independent review commissioned by the British
Business Bank has revealed the positive impact
of the Start Up Loans programme on business
start-up rates across the UK. Overall, the programme
has provided more than 50,000 loans worth a
total of £350 million to start ups and
early-stage firms since its launch in 2012.
In addition, 35% of loan recipients said they
would not have been able to start or grow their
business without it. The review has also indicated
that start-up loan recipients are significantly
more likely to grow their sales from year to
year, and that the economic benefits generated
from the programme are around three times greater
than the cost of providing the loans. (EnterpriseQuest)

Key reforms to the European Union trade mark
(EUTM) system came into effect on 1 October
2017. The requirement for an EUTM to be represented
graphically has been removed, meaning it is
now possible to register a sound, scent or moving
image. A new trade mark category has also been
introduced, enabling a symbol or mark which
demonstrates that goods or services meet standards
of manufacturing or performance to be registered
as an EU certification mark. An example of a
certification mark is the CE mark, which shows
that goods comply with European Commission health
and safety requirements. (EnterpriseQuest)
