New wave of 'prefabs' to sprout up across Britain.
My father (and many like him) began his property
business in the early 1960s buying up asbestos
prefabs which had been built just after the
Second World War to provide a rapid housing
solution for soldiers coming home from the war.
In those days, a generous garden included, these
properties could be snapped up for cash at £500
a pop (neither loans nor mortgages being available
for asbestos-built homes) and subsequently rented
out for £3 a week. All eminently affordable
- even if lining the asbestos walls inside and
out with block and brickwork, re-wiring and
additional plumbing was an almost immediate
and fairly costly must-do, allowing nonetheless,
local grafters to at least double their capital
investment as a result.

is going to cost? And how many opportunities
for the homeless, the needy and the grafters
they will provide?

The House of Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee

of market access that key service sectors in
the UK would like to have with the EU following
Brexit. The inquiry will investigate the challenges

Almost seven in ten (69%) business owners have
never exported and have no plans to do so in
future, according to the results of a survey
by the ICAEW. One in ten of the firms surveyed
were already exporters and 73% of them had been
exporting for more than 10 years. The research
revealed that two thirds of business owners
had not heard of UKTI (which is now the Department
for International Trade). Of those survey respondents
who had heard of UKTI, 87% said they do not
currently use any of its support services. ICAEW
argues that the figures indicate that the Government's
campaign to grow UK exports to £1 trillion
by 2020 is failing. (EnterpriseQuest)
