By
way of explanation. The
term 'home business' consists of two words.
'Business' is the second one; it's there to
qualify and support the word 'home' and all
that goes with it - and not vice versa. Consequently,
we also list below, items which are of interest
and value to the home. Whether in its context
as an office or as a part of your family and
lifestyle but always
directed at the improved prospects and enjoyment
that running a business from home, in its entirety,
can bring.
For a current, multi-part
overview of
starting and running a
business from home,

in Germany over his support for Israel boycott.
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/nov/29/roger-waters-broadcasts-cancelled-in-germany-over-accusations-of-antisemitism
Nazism dies hard in Germany, as broadcasters
RBB re-iterate their support for apartheid and
genocide just as many of their forefathers did
- although this time, that support is for Israeli
terrorists.
Not
without shedding crocodile tears into their
schnapps, however, pretending to bemoan the
rise of anti-Jewish sentiment from ordinary,
honest, law-abiding people around the world
who have a problem with liars, thieves and murderers.
Now why would that be, I wonder? Yet RBB are
no more the voice or the champions of 90% of
the world's Jews than are Israeli war criminals
like Netanyahu. Nor are they the voice of democracy
or freedom or we would be reading and hearing
from EVERYONE - including the views of the vast
majority of the international community which
RBB and the rest of Israel's cronies are always
more than happy to boycott. In the national
interest of the shekel.
Perhaps
it's time to start looking beyond Germany's
immigrant labour engineering excellence? Toyota,
maybe?

Christmas spending expected to fall. https://www.visa.co.uk/newsroom/christmas-spending-expected-to-fall-for-first-time-in-half-a-decade-2285032
UK consumer spending this Christmas season is
expected to be 0.1% lower in real terms when
compared with the 2016 festive period, figures
released by payment provider Visa have revealed.
This would represent the first fall in Christmas
spending in five years and is mainly attributed
to the impact of economic uncertainty and falling
wages. High street spending is set to fall by
2.1% in November/December 2017 when compared
to the same period in 2016. However, online
spending is expected to grow by 3.6%, with £2
of every £5 spent set to be spent online.
UK banks could handle 'disorderly Brexit'.

The same criminal banks which still can't

very well at money-laundering, funding terrorism,
poverty, starvation, famines, wars, refugees,
oh, and that small matter of screwing the consumer
- especially small businesses?

Corbyn is 'worse threat to British business
than Brexit', Morgan Stanley claims. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/jeremy-corbyn-morgan-stanley-worse-threat-brexit-british-business-labour-prime-minister-policies-a8079981.html
Compared to the threat posed by the banks
based on their actual performance, Mr Corbyn's
hypothetical 'threat' pales into absolute insignificance.
Of course, had Mr Corbyn levelled the same suggestion
at Morgan Stanley, he would no doubt, have been
accused of 'anti-Semitism.' Given the sustained
campaign of hatred Mr Corbyn has had to endure,
isn't it about time we had an 'anti-Corbynism'
law as well? Apart from alleviating compound
boredom from reading the same fake media trash
all the time, it might also help the 95% majority
of the UK's businesses to focus on their own
country's affairs for once. Not the USA's. And
not Israel's.

Draft
bill to tackle exploitation of gig workers.
https://www.personneltoday.com/hr/worker-default-status-proposed-new-gig-economy-bill/
The Work and Pensions and Business, Energy and
Industrial Strategy Committees have published
a draft bill to tackle the perceived exploitation
of gig workers. The bill outlines measures to
address false self-employment, which occurs
when an employer classes its workers as self-employed
in order to avoid paying income tax, National
Insurance contributions and employee benefits.
If passed into law, the bill will introduce
a new presumption of 'worker by default'. This
would require employers to provide workers with
a basic standard of rights and benefits, such
as sick and holiday pay, unless they can prove
a worker is genuinely self-employed. (EnterpriseQuest)
Campaign

Just 2% of people are aware that small businesses
with fewer than 50 employees make up 99% of
all businesses in the UK, according to a survey
commissioned by the British Business Bank. Only
21% of survey respondents were able to correctly
identify that small businesses account for £1.3
trillion or 33% of private sector turnover,
while the remaining 79% of respondents said
they contribute less. In response to the findings,
the British Business Bank has launched the 'Small
Wonders' campaign to encourage consumers to
support and recognise the value of small businesses.

Budget
2017 Summary and Reaction (EnterpriseQuest)
In
the Chancellor's Autumn Budget on 22 November
2017, a number of measures were announced that
will have an impact on smaller firms and the
self-employed. These include:
The Enterprise Finance Guarantee programme will
be extended until March 2022 and will be expanded
to provide up to £500 million of loans
every year.
- To
improve access to reputable sources of credit,
the number of potential members that a credit
union can serve in a local area will be increased
from 2 million to 3 million.
- An
additional £1.5 billion of funding has
been allocated to the Home Building Fund.
It will provide loans to small and medium-sized
house builders that cannot access the finance
they need to build.
- From
1 April 2018, two years earlier than planned,
business rates will rise in line with the
Consumer Price Index instead of the Retail
Price Index.
- Pubs
in England with a rateable value of up to
£100,000 will continue to receive a
£1,000 business rates discount from
1 April 2018.
- The
VAT registration threshold will be maintained
at its current level (£85,000) for two
years from 1 April 2018. This is to give the
Government sufficient time to consult on whether
the threshold could be changed to encourage
business growth.
- £34
million will be made available to support
the development of construction skills, while
a £30 million fund will extend the provision
of digital courses using artificial intelligence.

http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/public-accounts-committee/news-parliament-2017/brexit-future-customs-report-published-17-19/
The House of Commons' Public Accounts Committee
(PAC) has warned that it would be catastrophic
if a viable customs system is not in place before
the UK leaves the EU. The PAC has urged HMRC
to do more to ensure that the new Customs Declaration
Service is ready in time, as well as for contingency
plans to be in place by January 2019, well in
advance of the UK leaving the EU. Chair of the
PAC, Meg Hillier MP, said: "Failure to
have a viable customs system in place before
the UK's planned exit from the EU would wreak
havoc for UK business, trade and our international
reputation. Confidence would collapse amid the
potentially catastrophic effects." (EnterpriseQuest)

changes to the introduction of Making Tax Digital.
The chief executive of HMRC, Jon Thompson, said:
"It's not credible to continue with the
transformation programme as it is and deliver
all 250 projects at one time, not with the additional
workload of 40% to 50% because of Brexit and
responding to fiscal changes in the Budget."

Universal
Credit will discourage self-employment.
https://www.tax.org.uk/media-centre/press-releases/litrg-press-release-report-calls-changes-universal-credit-self-employed
The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group ( ) has warned
that Universal Credit will discourage people
from becoming or continuing to be self-employed.
The current Universal Credit system assumes
self-employed claimants earn a regular income
equal to at least the National Minimum Wage.
In addition, no provisions are made for claimants
with income and expenditure that fluctuates
from month to month. As a result, the LITRG
has called for the Government to allow self-employed
claimants to average their income over a year,
and for the 'minimum income floor' not to apply
for the first two years after a self-employed
person starts trading. (EnterpriseQuest)
Abolition of Class 2 NICs delayed by 12 months.
HM Treasury has announced that the abolition
of Class 2 National Insurance contributions
(NICs) will take effect in April 2019 rather
than April 2018. The delay is to enable HM Treasury
to consult on the impact that abolishing Class
2 NICs will have on the low-earning self-employed.
Once Class 2 NICs have been abolished, self-employed
people with annual profits below the small profits
threshold will have to pay Class 3 NICs in order
to build up an entitlement to state benefits.
Class 3 NICs are five times the amount of Class
2 NICs for 2017/18 (£14.25 per week compared

reforms "bad news for marketing industry".
https://dma.org.uk/article/political-wrangling-in-brussels-and-the-eprivacy-regulation
The EU LIBE (Civil Liberties, Justice and Home
Affairs) Committee has accepted proposed changes
to the ePrivacy Regulation. However, the Direct
Marketing Association has warned that the proposals
are anti-competitive and "bad news for
the marketing industry". Criticisms include
that the revised Regulation references no other
legal bases for data processing under the General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) than consent,
and that requiring opt-in consent for B2B corporate
marketing will hinder the ability of smaller
firms to enter the market. The amendments are
set to be debated by the European Parliament.

An investigation by the Information Commissioner's
Office (ICO) into website privacy notices has
found that many are inadequate. The ICO reviewed
privacy notices on 30 UK websites in the retail,
banking, travel and finance comparison sectors,
and found that they generally provided a good
explanation of the personal information they
collect. However, 26 privacy notices failed
to specify how and where this information would
be stored, the same number did not explain how
it would be shared, and 24 did not explain how
users could delete their personal data from
